Charles Lincoln, left, and Pete Jarrell work on constructing oak rocking chairs, which a few lucky children will receive from the Toybox program when Jaycee Santas make their rounds on Dec. 17. The two men and some other residents of the Missouri Veterans Home are using their woodworking skills to make the chairs, rocking horses and doll cradles and high chairs. This picture of the new Southeast Missouri Telephone Co. building was taken by G.D. Fronabarger probably during the late 1930s. The structure at the northwest corner of Broadway and Ellis Street looks very different than it does today. Read more about the building and the telephone call made in 1930 by Mayor Edward L.
