The Teen Pregnancy and Responsibility Network  announced the winners of their first essay contest. Twenty-six youths from area junior high and high schools entered the contest which evaluated the effectiveness of the teen pregnancy posters hanging in their schools. Edwin Puls and his wife Evelyn looked at a scrapbook covering the 50 years Puls worked at the Cape County Bank in Jackson. A reception honoring Puls was held at the bank. In 1940 Puls started at the bank as a teller. He retired as bank president in 1985 and in 1990 was chairman emeritus of the CCB board of directors. (Southeast Missourian archive photo)
