Using Calumet Baking Powder containers, these girls wrapped each can with a UNICEF label. Children took the cans with them when they went trick-or-treating on Halloween, collecting money for UNICEF. Dec. 21, 1963 Southeast Missourian. Callers at the city’s nursing homes will note on the doorways this Christmas garlands of cedar gaily ornamented, each differently. Giving of self and service in the spirit of Christmas, Girl Scout Troop 141 of Alma Schrader School cut the cedar, shaped, and placed the ornaments on the wreaths which were delivered this week. Pictured at the Broadway Rest Home, left to right, are Lynda Nations hanging the wreath, Karen Hale, Mrs. Edith Caldwell, owner of the home; Donna Hitt, Martha Foster and Jane Rodgers. Sept. 28, 1951 Southeast Missourian. With their three big copper-lined kettles and a good wood fire, these Grace Methodist Church women made 225 quarts of apple butter in two days and sold every bit of it. Jonathan and Gano apples went into the butter, all seasoned up with spices. From the left, starting with the women delving into the sugar sack, are Mrs. Ted Regenhardt, Mrs. W.J. McBride, Mrs. J.W. July 27, 1956 Southeast Missourian. This long, simply-constructed barbecue pit was the classroom for 200 guests of the Cape County Poultry Improvement Association Thursday evening at Arena Park. This shows 110 broilers being barbecued over the charcoal fire while the crowd watched in anticipation of the half-chicken each person got to eat later. In the foreground, from the left, are County Agent A.D. Arnhart and Walter Russell, extension poultryman from the University of Missouri, applying the sauce as the chickens cooked.
