At center is Southeast Missouri State president Dr. W.W. Parker, but we're not sure of the other two men. The man at right may be Lealon N. Jones, supervisor of English at the old Campus School and author of the book "Eve's Stepchildren." Dr. Charles Bahn confirmed Jones' identity: "Picture #2: Leland Jones taught at SEMO and was married to Elsie Sanders, daughter of Albert Sanders of Sanders Hardware Store at Jackson." Dec. 7, 1961 Southeast Missourian The new Kroger Co. egg grading plant at Jackson was opened Wednesday afternoon with citizens and company officials joining in ceremonies. Here, from the left, inspecting packages of eggs as they came off the packing machine following grading, are John Freeman, plant manager; Mayor Walter A. Kasten of Jackson, Cyril Sturm, Kroger projects manager; Bob Hartle, chairman, Jackson Chamber of Commerce’s industrial committee; C.E. Armstrong, vice president, St. Louis Kroger division; Richard Davis, president, Jackson Chamber of Commerce, and R.C. Bonekemper, vice president, Kroger processing division. (G.D. Fronabarger/Southeast Missourian archive) Cape Girardeau County is seen by Kroger officials as the center of poultry production for marketable eggs for the firm’s stores. The company bought a four-acre tract from the Industrial Development Corp. in September, and the new plant was opened in November.

While we don't know what a young calf, a school bell and an ugly lamp have in common, Betty Landre was able to identify the young man on the left as William "Bill" Schabbing, who grew up to become a veterinarian in Jackson.
