G.D. Fronabarger left the Missourian boxes and boxes of negatives. What he didn't leave were IDs for them. Pictures of the Past features some of Frony's images we've partially identified. We're hoping you can help fill in the blanks. Contact librarian Sharon Sanders at ssanders@semissourian.com, if you recognize a place or a face. Mystery Galleries may still be viewed on our History Page, http://www.semissourian.com/history/

These four men appear to be examining futuristic-looking candle holders. The objects could have been Space Needle souvenirs from the Seattle World's Fair. Deshay Kirsch Rust commented: "I'm sure others have already identified him, but the man on the left in the first picture is Wayne Rust. He was my husband's grandfather. Have no idea what they are doing. Perhaps some of the other Rusts who knew him at that time will chime in with some clue. My connection with the Rust family started in the early '70s. Love looking at old Cape pictures!" Stephen Rust added: "Second man from the left is Dan Cotner." Martha Black added: "The man next to Dr. Cotner is Jack Palsgrove. A very kind and sweet
man. He and my father, John Black, were great friends."

Outlandish costumes were the order of the day when Central High School’s pupils observed their annual Costume Day. They came to school in rags, ill-matched apparel and anything they could rig to attract attention. These pupils sport typical samples of the day’s old fashions. From the left are Mary Hope, Teresa Kirby, LaVerne Davis, Kaye Harrelson, Joy Wilson, Norman Johns, Tommy Sander and John Baker. (G.D. Fronabarger/Southeast Missourian archive)

This may be a class to teach apprentices plumbing techniques. David Gaither set us straight: "This pictures was at Local 318 Pipefitters Union Hall in Cape. From the left are Kenny Ellison, Jerry Oliver, I can't remember the third one, Chester Moore, Dewey Laramie, Melvin Heise, Paul Kidd, and Frank Eaton. It was probably back in the late '50s. Melvin, if I spelled your last name wrong, sorry."

Published March 20, 1963. State College was host to patrons of the Regional Science Fair and to judges at a luncheon in Memorial Hall Tuesday noon. These men represented the patron's organization, business firms and professional groups who assist the co-sponsors, State College and The Missourian, in the program. From left are, Dr. Raymond A. Ritter, Cape County Medical Society; J.W. Coon, Davis Electric Co.; Ray W. Call, Missouri Utilities Co.; Richard H. Swaim, First National Bank; Loren N. Slinkard, Missouri Barge Lines; Fred Stone, Marquette Cement Mfg. Co.; Frank Cheatham, Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. [Note from Bill Stone: Sixth from the left (second from the right) is Fred Stone, Marquette Cement plant manager, but more importantly, my father! Thanks for the memories!" A second note from Bill Stone: "I went back to look at 'Pop,' deceased since 2001, and realized I missed Ray Call, third from the left, president of Missouri Utilities. There is a good chance that they were on campus for the Science Fair but that is a guess."]
