Published May 31, 1960, Southeast Missourian: Three Cape Girardeau men were given community honors Saturday night at the aviation dinner sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. The honors were for contributing the most to promotion of aviation in Cape Girardeau, culminating in the rebuilt airport dedicated in Sunday ceremonies. From the left are John T. Seesing and John Godwin, co-owners of Cape Central Airways, which operates the municipal facility; Rush H. Limbaugh Jr., secretary of the Airport Board, and Dave Patterson, chairman of the chamber's aviation committee, who presided at the dinner.

The Lions Club Pancake Day has been a tradition in Cape Girardeau since 1939. This undated photo shows the fund-raiser was held at the former Orpheum Theater on Good Hope Street. Pancake Day was held there from 1956-1959.

March 20, 1961 Southeast Missourian. Cub Scouts from Pack 16 spent Sunday afternoon at Arena Park planting roses as the pack’s city beautification project. Two bushes were planted by each of the six dens, 12 of the climbing variety in all, the plants being set near the grandstand. Archery was one of the first things taught Brownies and under the guidance of senior Girl Scouts these girls were learning how to place an arrow and draw a bow. It was at the Cape day camp on Cape Rock Drive. From the left are Pat Shelton, Linda Clark, Kathy Roberts, Sally Seabaugh, Joan Heise, Patty Kiehne, Martha Jane Trickey, Jane McGinty, Cynthia Schoss, Jane Hartline, Marcia McDowell, Diana Loos, Vickie Nebel and Susan Bohnsack. The photo was published on the front page of the Aug. 19, 1959, edition of the Southeast Missourian.

Jennifer Lipps confirmed the identify the model, Ann Fuhrmann, in this 1950s photo at Northland Hills Orchard in Cape Girardeau that was made by G.D. Fronabarger. Lawrence Fuhrmann was manager of Northland Hills Orchard. “Mr. Fuhrmann's daughter is Ann Fuhrmann Crites whom some of you will remember from the class of 1958 at Central High. Pretty sure Ann worked at the orchard sometimes.”
