In an attempt to impress the delegates to the state Jaycees' annual Fall meeting in Cape Girardeau, members of the local Jaycees tried to inflate this huge balloon and let it float above the meeting's headquarters, the Hotel Marquette. But, alas, the balloon burst from too much air pressure. From the left are Richard Eggimann, Dale West, Charles Baldwin, Curt Bradley, Jack Kohrumel and Allan Baker of the local group. These men spoke at the annual Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce dinner meeting on Feb. 23, 1960, at Memorial Hall. A large crowd attended to hear the program, centered on aviation. Left to right are the Rev. Francis Roschke, Maurice Dunklin, who presided; Paul J. Rodgers of St. Louis, director of public relations for Ozark Airlines, who was the main speaker; Stephen N. Limbaugh, installed as chamber president, and Vinson Rueseler, retiring president.

Learning something about transportation, these members of Cub Pack 7 took a passenger train ride from Cape Girardeau to Chaffee at noon on March 25, 1961. They were met there by cars and returned home later in the day. The 34 boys making the trip were accompanied by cubmaster Ray Lipe; assistant, Harold Ellis, and Mrs. L. Connors, Mrs. J. Vann, Mrs. Ray Lipe, Mrs. Alice Harris, Mrs. Bob Blackwell, Mrs. Archie Smiley, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson, Mrs. Paul Kitchen and Mrs. Clifford Stacy, the women all den mothers.

Eight Cape Girl Scouts prepared to leave on the first lap of their trip to Colorado Springs, Colo., to attend the two-week National Girl Scout roundup: Cora Sue Travelstead, Sherry Huff, Barbara Bierbaum, Pamela Nett, Judy Jacob, Jean Lehmann, Susan Bohnsack and Sara Lou Travelstead.
