G.D. Fronabarger left the Missourian boxes and boxes of negatives. What he didn't leave were IDs for them. Pictures of the Past features some of Frony's images we've partially identified. These women standing at the Batjer sundial in Common Pleas Courthouse Park in Cape Girardeau are unidentified. G.D. Fronabarger took the picture and the date is unknown. The memorial is inscribed: "In memory of W.F.D. Batjer and in grateful recognition of his faithful service and happy inspiring leadership, the people of Cape Girardeau dedicate this sundial May 22, 1938." Mr. Batjer came to southeast Missouri as director of the Southeast Missouri Agricultural Bureau, and later was farm director and then secretary of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.

G.D. Fronabarger took this photograph in the summer of 1958 to contrast the calm of weed-choked Water Street to the bustle of the construction of the floodwall at right.

Before floodwall construction began along Cape Girardeau's wharf, a bulldozer was employed in the summer of 1958 to remove the cobblestones.

Oct. 12, 1963 Southeast Missourian. Ann Vogel, seated, Greg Hoxworth and Donna Barklage brought numerous items for a building materials display their third grade class participated in at Campus School. Each item was labeled for the special study on homes. (G.D. Fronabarger/Southeast Missourian archive) Children in Mrs. Raymond Sheets’ third grade class at Campus School brought their homes into the classroom for a recent social studies unit on “Homes.” Pupils prepared a “City of Roses” bulletin board showing a map of Cape Girardeau, accompanied with the query, “Where do you live?” The building materials display was loaded with items brought by the youngsters, such as lumber, brick, stone, tile, marble, slate, glass, iron pipes, hardware and asphalt shingles.

Oct. 11, 1957 Southeast Missourian. Central High School’s Tigerettes, a traditional organization such as this attractive collection, lend their able assistance to the student body in providing the enthusiasm which goes with athletic contests and band events.
