Help us identify these Girl Scouts. Bill Stone wrote, "I believe the photo was taken around 1955. There are two Girl Scouts I can definitely identify. In the front row, second from the left is Pam Nett and next to her third from the left is Joy Deneke. I just don't want to guess on the rest."

Memory, not so much...The young baseball players MIGHT be at the north end of Capaha Park. Back row, second from right: Jim Reynold; fifth from right: Roger Mahan; sixth from right: Robert "R.C." Grossheider; seventh from right: Norval or Wayne Jones (twins). Front row, third from right: Roger "Rick" Meinz. Front row, right, might be Cory Foster."

This picture taken Feb. 4, 1937 shows the fire that destroyed Bartels Mercantile Co. at the southeast corner of Broadway and Ellis Street in Cape Girardeau. Later that year, on Sept. 9, the store reopened at 430 Broadway where it continued until going out of business in 1957.

A crowd of shoppers jams the Bartels Store, 430 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, as the closing-out sale began on Thursday, Nov. 21, 1957. The management said the crowd filled the store throughout the day. The building was constructed in 1928 for the Montgomery Ward store. It continued in that location until 1933 when the store was moved to Main Street. Bartels opened in the building on Sept. 9, 1937.
