Absentee ballots are now available for those who can't make it to the polls April 5.
Cape Girardeau County Clerk Kara Clark Summers said the ballots can be picked up at her offices at the Common Pleas Courthouse at 44 N. Lorimier St. in Cape Girardeau or at 1 Barton Square, Suite 301, in Jackson. The offices are open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Those offices will open from 8 a.m. to noon April 2 to allow for absentee voting.
Absentee voting is allowed for residents who will be absent on election day, are disabled or cannot on that day because of a religious belief, Summers said. Ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. April 5, she said.
Absentee ballots can be mailed upon signed, written request. Those can be mailed out until March 30, she said. The last day to vote absentee in person is April 4.
Summers also encourages voters who have moved to let her office know so they can be directed to the correct polling place.
Absentee ballots are also available in other area counties. For more information, call the county clerk's office.
