Accident near Trail of Tears State Park sends man to Cape Girardeau hospital

A Cape Girardeau man was injured earlier this morning as the vehicle he was driving near Trail of Tears State Park ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports website. The 1996 Chrysler LHS driven by Jonathan J. Tapia, 18, was totaled.

Tapia was traveling on Highway 177, 8 miles north of Cape Girardeau when the accident occurred at around 6:49 a.m. He was transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was treated for serious injuries.
