Central Junior High School has a full week of activities planned in honor of American Education Week, Nov. 13-17. In preparation for the week, eighth- and ninth-grade students decorated colored squares with educational themes.
Monday, quilters from the River Heritage Quilters Guild assembled the eighth-grade squares into a quilt which is on display in the main hall lobby. Ninth-grade squares were used in a mobile on display in the upper hall. Students also received "Helpful Home Hints" to share with their parents and a "Helping Hand" they will use to record a helpful deed they have done for someone who has made a difference in their education.
Today, students will be awarded with a "Free Homework Pass," which they may use in any class at the teacher's discretion.
CJHS is sponsoring an open house Wednesday so friends and family may visit classrooms.
On Thursday, students will return their "Helping Hands." Area merchants have donated prizes ranging from ice cream to free movie passes which will be awarded in a drawing of students who recorded helpful deeds.
Friday has been designated "Apple of My Eye Day." Students are encouraged to take a special apple-related treat to their favorite teacher, aid, cook, custodian, bus driver, secretary or administrator.
