The American Red Cross now has nine shelters open for ice-storm victims throughout Southeast Missouri.

The Delta shelter was closed after power returned before 8 p.m. Thursday. While the majority of the shelters include cots and blankets, the Red Cross asks residents to bring snacks, medications, flashlights, blankets and activities for children. The Red Cross and Salvation Army, local churches, and community partners are working in collaboration to provide feeding for the people staying in the shelters.

The following Red Cross ice-storm shelters are open:

- New Madrid Community Center, 1199 Mill St, New Madrid, Mo.

- Miner Baptist Church, 416 Hwy H, Sikeston, Mo.

- Portageville First Baptist Church, 608 De Lisle, Portageville, Mo.

- Calvary Baptist Church, 201 E Lincoln, Hayti, Mo.

- VFW Hall, 7183 Hwy D, Lilbourn, Mo.

- Field House, 300 Pine St., Sikeston, Mo.

- Slicer Street Church of Christ, 310 Slicer St., Kennett, Mo.

- Old Junior High School gymnasium, Park St. behind library, Dexter, Mo.

- Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St., Cape Girardeau

Maj. Ben Stillwell of the Salvation Army said volunteers served 71 people during the Wednesday evening meal and provided shelter for 16 at the Salvation Army/Red Cross shelter. As of 8:45 a.m. 23 people had eaten breakfast.
