All that planting, mowing and trimming could lead to more than just a beautiful lawn. It could bring the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce's "Yard of the Month" honor.

The annual competition begins in April and ends in October.

Each month, two residential yards and one non-residential yard are selected by members of the chamber's beautification committee. Signs designating the award is displayed in the winning yards, and certificates are sent to recipients.

The committee hopes to generate friendly competition and encourage people to enhance their lawns.

"Yard of the Month nominations can be submitted by calling the chamber at 335-03312, stopping by the chamber office, 1267 Mount Auburn Road, or mailing to P.O. Box 98, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702-0098.
