Perry County Coroner Herb Miller has identified the Sikeston, Mo., man who drowned in Apple Creek Sunday night as 32-year-old Chris Grindstaff. Several agencies, including the Perry County and Cape Girardeau County sheriff's departments and the Cape Girardeau Fire Department dive team, searched for Grindstaff for about 90 minutes after a woman said he had not surfaced after jumping into the creek from the Old Appleton bridge around 7 p.m. Crews found Grindstaff around 8:30 p.m. near where he jumped in the creek. Miller said he has ruled Grindstaff's death as an accidental drowning.
