The 1992 8th Congressional District Art Competition for high school students is under way.

The district contest, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson, is held in conjunction with "An Artistic Discovery," a nationwide high school art competition sponsored by the Congressional Arts Caucus.

High school students may submit one entry through his or her school. All artwork will be showcased at the District Teachers Meeting of the Missouri State Teachers Association, to be held in Cape Girardeau March 13.

The winning entry will be displayed in an entrance corridor of the United States Capitol for a year.

"This competition enables us to give proper recognition to, as well as showcase, the creative energies of our young people in southern Missouri. I truly believe that this year's competition will indeed highlight the immense wealth of talent and creativity that lies in the high schools of the Eighth District," Emerson said.
