The Southeast Missourian asked people about a proposal before Congress that would permit minting of quarters to commemorate the 50 states.

Tina Weber: "I think it would be a good idea, and for Missouri, to put the Arch in St. Louis on it. It's so big, and when you think of the Arch you think of Missouri."

Marvin Adams: "If the coin would represent our state, maybe we should have something that's been adopted by our state as an emblem. What comes to mind is the Missouri mule."

Megane Slinkard: "I think it would be neat to have the Arch in St. Louis on the back of a quarter. It's a symbol that's well known across America."

Beth Free: "Since we are the Show Me State, perhaps we should utilize that along with the Missouri mule. I think collecting the coins would be a good thing."

Fred Rister: "I would like to see Harry Truman on the back of that quarter. I like the sign on his desk, `The Buck Stops Here,' and everyone would know that this was Missouri."
