School clubs and parent organizations hope to raise school spirit with special back-to-school events. They have scheduled rallies for both Cape Girardeau Central High School and Central Junior High School students this week.

The Central High renaissance group will honor students with perfect attendance and honors at a rally Thursday. "Our Roar to Excellence" will be held at 8:15 a.m. at the Tiger Field House. Principal Randie Fidler will introduce new staff members to the group and athletic director Terry Kitchen will introduce new coaches.

Academic letters and bars were earned by 52 students during the past school year, and 354 students earned a spot on the A and B honor roll during the 1995-96 school year. They will receive awards during the assembly.

Students in the top 10 percent of their classes will receive a tiger's head pin. Kurt Restemeyer, a 1979 graduate, has arranged for one of the pins to fly aboard a space shuttle during October.

Students at Central Junior High School will be treated to a day of contests, refreshments and prizes at the "Tie 'Em Up Tiger" Saturday. The event is sponsored by the school's Parent Teacher Association and St. Francis Medical Center.

The students also can tie-dye a T-shirt during the event, which will be held at the school from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
