For Gordonville native Sarah Lorberg, the price was right for a spring break in Los Angeles.

Lorberg, a senior marketing major at Southwest Missouri State University, won $27,000 in prizes on the "Price is Right" television game show last month.

Her prizes included a paddle boat, juicer, fireplace, spa, washer and dryer, a bar and a Buick Century.

Lorberg is the daughter of John and Ellen Lorberg of Gordonville.

Lorberg and her four roommates flew to California for the weeklong spring break. On March 18, they were in the studio audience for a taping of the game show in Los Angeles. That show is scheduled to air April 17 at 10 a.m. on CBS.

Lorberg and her friends sported neon yellow T-shirts at the taping that read, "SMSU loves Bob." SMSU refers to Southwest Missouri State University.

Lorberg said she thought that might get the attention of Bob Barker, who is a graduate of Drury College in Springfield, Mo.

Lorberg and her roommates arrived at the television studio at 7 a.m. They stood in a long line with hundreds of others hoping to be in the audience.

Lorberg said some people had camped out overnight to be at the front of the line.

She and her friends didn't get in for the first taping at 1:30 p.m. They were among 350 people who made it inside for the second taping at 5 p.m..

Lorberg said waiting was the toughest part. She and her friends were in line from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

They started out with only four game-show tickets but secured another from a woman who was standing in line and had an extra ticket.

Lorberg said she was surprised when she was called to be one of the first four contestants during the taping of the hour-long show.

"I was in such a shock," she said Thursday, back home from Easter break. "I saw all of my roommates jump up and look at me."

Lorberg said she was so excited she could barely catch her breath. "I kissed Bob Barker on the cheek," she said.

Lorberg beat out the other three contestants in guessing the price of a paddle boat. She won the boat, which gave her a chance to spin the wheel.

She defeated two other contestants in that segment of the show. The winner was the contestant that came closest to $1 on the wheel without going over.

Lorberg said she then had to wait back stage to compete in the jackpot at the end of the show.

Competing for the showcase jackpot made her nervous. "I was so scared I thought I was going to pass out," she said.

She won by coming closest to guessing the price of a showcase of prizes. By doing so she won the prizes, which included a car.

Lorberg said her roommates jumped on stage after she won. "We were all attacking Barker's beauties," she said, referring to the game show host's female assistants.

"I honestly felt like I was dreaming," she said.

Lorberg said the prizes are being shipped to her parents' home in Gordonville. The juicer already has arrived.

A smiling Lorberg went car shopping Thursday to pick out a Buick Century.

As a winner, she can't be a contestant again on the show.

Lorberg has to pay taxes on the prizes. But she isn't complaining.

Her winning trip didn't end with the game show. She and her roommates received free round-trip airfare for a future trip after they agreed to stay behind in Salt Lake, Utah, for a day because the airline had overbooked the flight to Kansas City.

"We had a good time," said Lorberg.
