A precautionary boil water order will be in effect from 8 a.m. today until 5 p.m. Friday for residents of portions of Forest Acres subdivision in Jackson.

According to a news release from the city, the order is for all homes on Royal Drive, East Jackson Trail, Shady Lane and homes at 1129, 1138, 1158 and 1205 Highland Drive.

Water service will also be unavailable for several hours this morning while a section of a water main is replaced.

While the order is in effect, the city is advising residents to boil water intended for any type of consumption for at least three minutes; to dispose of and replace ice cubes with cubes from water that was boiled; to disinfect dishes and other surfaces that come into contact with food by immersing them in clean tap water and bleach solution; and to review rules for use of water while bathing. Water that is used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled, according to the release.

Questions about the order can be directed to the city's water distribution department at 243-5595 or public works department at 243-2300.
