Cape First will begin services at its new extension in Sikeston next month.

The church has a membership of 2,000 people from around Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

The Sikeston service will be held on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and includes nursery and children's programs. The services will be held at the RaudMont Hotel beginning Nov. 4.

The church already has an extension through its House of Hope in south Cape Girardeau and Freedom Rock for youth.

Immaculate Conception to sell Christmas CD

Students at Immaculate Conception School in Jackson have been getting into the Christmas spirit in preparation for a new CD release.

The school recorded its second CD in late September. The Christmas collection, titled "A Gift for the King," will be available for purchase in late November.

The CD project is part of a stewarship project at the school, and several copies of the CD will be sent to a sister parish, Immaculate Conception in Kalsakg, Alaska. Copies also will be sent to an Indian reservation at Our Lady of Lourdes in Porcupine, S.D., and infants born at area hospitals during December will receive a complimentary copy.

The CD is the second such project for the school. A CD titled "Fire in our Hearts: A song on our lips" was released last fall.

Downtown churches join for neighborhood project

Two downtown churches are joining together for a neighborhood project. First Presbyterian Church and Christ Episcopal Church in Cape Girardeau are working together to sponsor a fall festival called "Jesus in the neighborhood."

The event will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 26 at May Greene Park, rain or shine. There will be games for children, free food and prizes and music.

The event is a way for people to know "we're interested in the children and families in this neighborhood," said the Rev. Bob Towner, rector at Christ Episcopal.

In case of rain, the games and picnic will be moved indoors.

Young Life 'hoedown' fall event planned

Young Life, a Christian youth organization, will hold its fall fund-raising event Oct. 25 at Deerfield Lodge. The "Throw the dough down hoedown" begins at 6:30 p.m.
