An outdoor outfitters store opens here this week. JBR Outfitters Limited is at 1 West Park Village, at the intersection of Route K and Broadview.

"We are carrying hunting and fishing equipment, casual clothing, gifts, wildlife art and watersports equipment," said spokesman and store manager Barbara Piper. "The store will also carry handguns, hunting rifles and shotguns, and ammunition.

"We saw similar shops: Frontenac Outfitters in St. Louis and Hunter Bradley Outfitters in Dallas, Texas. We felt there is a need here for this type of merchandise."

One of the major suppliers for the store is Orvis. The company's fly fishing equipment, gifts, clothing and other merchandise will be carried at JBR. Other brands include Arthur Court, Browning, Barbour, Bob Allen, Buck, Columbia, HO Sports, Khaki Jungle, Mossy Oak, Timberland and Woolrich.

She said she expects the store to be opening Tuesday or Wednesday. A grand opening is set for September. Hours have not been set yet.

The 6,000-square-foot space is being leased from the Drury interests. The space was formerly occupied by Children's Bazaar and Boys Corner, which moved to Kingshighway and Independence.

Piper said they plan to have fly fishing schools and trips sponsored by Orvis to be available.

She previously worked in sales in Neiman-Marcus in Dallas and in real-estate and insurance sales. Piper also had a dress and jewelry shop in Memphis. She has one daughter.
