Two Cape Girardeau teens are charged wth stealing a motor vehicle and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, said Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Barry Hovis.
Hovis said the 15-year-old boys were arrested Saturday after they allegedly stole a car sometime after 2 a.m. that day from Lear Street and drove it across the Mississippi River into Illinois, where they reportedly drove it around before throwing rocks at the window and taillight covers.
A Cape Girardeau police officer noticed the abandoned car on the river bank later that day and instigated an investigation with Illinois authorities, Hovis said.
The boys also allegedly took a car from Adeline Street about 5 a.m. Saturday and drove it for a period of time before returning it to the owner, Hovis said.
