Gov. Mel Carnahan and three other top Missouri officials will participate in a Democratic Party fund-raising rally in Cape Girardeau June 8.

The event, sponsored by AFL-CIO labor unions, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Show Me Center.

Admission is $5. The proceeds will go to the Southeast Central Trades & Labor Council, which will use the money in its election campaigns to support Democratic Party candidates.

Besides Carnahan, those scheduled to attend are Lt. Gov. Roger Wilson, Secretary of State Rebecca Cook, State Treasurer Bob Holden, 8th District congressional candidate Emily Firebaugh and Missouri Senate candidate Rick Althaus.

Frank Garriga, business agent for Operating Engineers Local 513, is vice president of the labor council, which represents construction trades workers from Ste. Genevieve south to the Arkansas line.

He said organizers of the rally hope to attract 1,500 people.

Tickets can be purchased at Thomasson, Gilbert, Cook, Remley and Maguire law firm at 715 N. Clark, the Pipefitters and Plumbers Hall at 417 N. Spring, and Operating Engineers Local 513 at 777 Enterprise.
