A free "clothing exchange" for children will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the commons area of Cape Girardeau Central High School.

According to Carlynn Forst, art teacher at Central and organizer of the event, the clothing exchange is a way of re-using old clothes while benefiting local schools and charities. The exchange will accept clothing from small sizes up to adult sizes, and participants are to bring their clothes and exchange them for other articles of clothing that are available. The only rules are the clothing being exchanged must be clean and in good condition and participants must not take more than they bring, Forst said.

She said donations of children's clothing to the exchange also will be accepted. Surplus clothing that meets dress-code guidelines will be distributed among Cape Girardeau public schools, and items that do not meet the guidelines will be donated to the Safe House for Women, Forst said.
