St. Vincent CCW; Lamplighters FCE

Cape County AARP 4041

The Cape Girardeau County AARP 4041 met for their November meeting with Laverne Nothdurft, president, presiding.

New members for November are Deborah Tracy and Rupert Fiehler. Special recognition was given to Ruth Barnes, Marcie Fuller, John Janssen, Helen Leimbach, Glenda Quinn, Betty Haas, Muriel Day and Phyllis McClanahan for outstanding participation during the year.

Grace Hoover, program chairman, introduced Dr. Charles Sharp. He presented the program on "The Aims Of War, The Results Of War."

The next meeting will be held Monday. The installation of the 2006 officers will be held at this meeting as well as Christmas gifts for kids and Christmas entertainment.

St. Vincent CCW

The St. Vincent de Paul Council of Catholic Women met Nov. 7 in the lower room at the church. The speaker was Neal Grimaud of Perryville, Mo. He is an elocutionist.

The meeting was opened by Alician Loos, president.

Alma Heisserer reported that the "Ugly Quilt" weekend making sleeping bags for the homeless was a huge success. The council purchased 200 sock caps to include with the quilts. She also has a large bag of yarn if anyone can knit or crochet caps for next year's project.

A letter was received from Lorberg Funeral Home that it will provide Christmas wreaths at the entrance of St. Mary Cemetery.

Michelle Moon thanked the council for providing hostesses at the Church Women United board meeting held at the church.

Lamplighters FCE

The Lamplighters FCE Club met Nov. 17 in Dairy for a tour of Village Designs. After the tour, the monthly meeting was held at the home of Bert Seyer. JoAnn Hahs, president, presided over the meeting.

Those who participated in the trip to the Missouri Veterans Home on Veterans Day shared the residents were happy to receive the clothes protecters made by the club members.

Linda Sebaugh gave a report on the district meeting held Oct. 27 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Food was collected for a Thanksgiving dinner for the club's adopted family. Members brought toys for the Toys for Tots program.

Sharon Bogenpohl and Hahs gave a program on making glass block presents.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 15.
