Cape Girardeau CWU

The Cape Girardeau Area Church Women United met Jan. 4 at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson with 13 members present. Debra Tracy lead the Bible study in preparation for Hospitality Day, which will be at 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. New officers will be installed by Kim McDowell, and members are asked to bring finger foods to share with the group. Those in attendance are asked to bring donations of cans of soup to be given to the FISH food pantry.

Joyce King conducted the board meeting. The minutes were read and approved.

The treasurer's report was give by Martha Sanderson. She reminded the group that CWU dues are now $5 and when collecting the dues to put name and address of person paying the dues.

A report was given by Dolly Jewell regarding the Christmas gifts that were given to the women's group at the Cape Area Family Resource Center. A thank-you card was received from the group. Individuals gave Christmas presents to the older children at the center. It was discussed to get the dates of the birthdays of the children at the center so that the group could remember them on their birthdays.

A thank-you note was received from the Network on Sexual Violence on the Beanie Babies and a monetary contribution from CWU.

Celebration materials were handed out to leaders for the special events in 2008. The budget for 2008 was voted to leave as the previous year for the exception of raising the local project monies to $200. This was approved by members. Church World Service kits for 2008 will be layettes that will be delivered to Festival of Sharing in October in Sedalia, Mo.

Nancy Hunter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter of NSDAR met Jan. 16 at Hanover Lutheran Church. Catherine Allison, secretary, read the minutes from the previous meeting and they were approved. Ruth Lang, treasurer, gave the treasury report. She also reported the chapter made $184.56 for the chapter from sales made of Helen Grace Chocolates and Innisbrook Wraps.

Jennifer Rowland attended as a prospective junior member.

Dorothy Points, regent, announced one student had been accepted to qualify for the Good Citizens Award. She will be invited to the next month's meeting to accept the award.

Lang was presented a certificate from Missouri State Society of DAR promoting DAR through Chapter Web site 2007. She also received a certificate for promoting volunteerism special committee achievement award.

Points received a 30-year membership award certificate for being a member of the United States Daughters of 1812. This certificate was presented by Charlotte Young Slinkard, national president.

Slinkard gave the program about the National Home of United States Daughters of 1812. She is the 33rd national president of the group.

Points was elected to attend the Missouri State Conference in Columbia, Mo., April 4 to 6. Allison is the alternate.

The next meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at Chateau Girardeau.

Lamplighters FCE

The Lamplighters FCE Club met Jan. 17 at the home of Jackie Kurre. The club's theme this year is "spice up your life." Each month, a spice sample, recipe and information will be given to each member. Each person received a package of dried chives this month.

Linda Sebaugh, president presided over the business meeting. A planning meeting for club reports is scheduled for Feb. 13, and committees were assigned for the activities and projects of 2008.

Bylaws were reviewed, and the club book of monthly meetings was discussed.

Karen McLane gave a report of individual record retention reminding club members how long to keep receipts and documents.

The next meeting will be at the Red Barn on Feb. 29 for members and guests. The program will be "Dog-Patch ... North Cape County, USA."
