Nancy Hunter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met Feb. 24 to present the Good Citizen Awards at Cape Girardeau Public Library.

Ruth Lang, regent, led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to American flag before turning the Awards Presentations over to award chairperson, Dorothy Points.

Points introduced Morgan Paige Newell of Friedheim, a student of Oak Ridge High School, who read her essay to the group. She is daughter of Bill and Angel Newell. She was accompanied by the school principal, Jerry Witvoet.

Ben Edward Wilson Hendricks, a student from Cape Girardeau Central High School, then came to front to read his essay. Ben is son of Steve and Hays Hendricks who attended the awards. Both mothers put the award pin on their child.

Hostess was Sheila Holloway, serving refreshments after the awards while the members of DAR got to visit and have fellowship with the students and parents.

The next meeting is to be at 1:30 p.m. on March 24 in the Penzel Room, Cape Girardeau Public Library. Dr. Frank Nickell, director of The Center of Regional History at Southeast Missouri University, will be the guest speaker. He will present a program relating to Southeast Missouri history.

Alpha Mu Master

Alpha Mu Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Margaret Little. Guest speaker was Eva Hillis, executive director of Love INC. She explained that the organization's purpose was to help mobilize churches to meet the needs of its community. It serves as a clearing house to screen requests for help and refer individuals to services and resources available. There are opportunities for volunteers.

Martha Slaten, president, presided at the business meeting. Dixie Jones, vice president, told of a new cookbook printed by the International organization containing recipes contributed by Beta Sigm Phi members around the world.

Kage FCE

Linda Farrow was hostess when the Kage FCE Club met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for their monthly meeting. A guest at the meeting was Margaret Nix. The devotional, "A little mixed up poem," was presented by Jobyna Daume, vice president, and presided over the meeting

The "tip of the day" was the "D ? E ? F" from the "Show Me Book of Missouri."

A donation was made to the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for the February community service project. Hats, gloves, scarves, and slippers were taken to the Cape Girardeau County Rural Health Clinic for the January project. The project for March will be donated items for the Fish Food Pantry.

All Clubs Day will be held on March 22 and the Leader Training meeting will be held on March 29.

State Reports were turned in and will be taken to the Extension Center on February 19 by Dortha Strack and Daume.

The program on "Hospice" was presented by Strack prior to the meeting.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.

Tilsit 4-H

The Feb. 4 meeting of the Tilsit 4H Club was held at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson and was called to order by Ryan Aufdenberg, president. There were 36 members and 21 others present. The meeting's theme was backwards night. Pledges were lead by Caleb and Zach Aufdenberg.

The meeting started with a presentation from Sherre Gerecke, titled "Heart for Africa." Roll call was "Do you have a Valentine?" Hannah Aufdenberg gave a demonstration on "How to make cream cheese cookies." Jacob Aufdenberg gave a demonstration titled "how to make spicy Cajun pretzles."

The next meeting will be at the Immaculate Conception Church basement on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Young Americans 4-H

The February meeting of the Young Americans 4-H Club was called to order by Claire Illers on Feb. 18 at Grace United Methodist Church. There were 15 members and 14 adults in attendance.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gary Schweer while Alex Eftink led the 4-H Pledge. Clayton Kirchdoerfer and Eftink led the club in singing "Farm Work." Roll call was answered by "What is your favorite breed of dog?"

Project reports were made by Trisha and Tyler Kirchdoerfer on dairy.

The Valentines the members made were distributed by the Cameron and Strack Families to the Ratcliff Nursing Center on Feb. 13.

Dortha's Day Camp for Clover Kids will be held June 6. The theme will "Pirates of Cape County North." The applications will be sent to the extension office in March to be mailed out to the Clover Kids.

The club voted to go bowling on March 21 at Main Street Lanes in Jackson. The time will be announced.

The Health and Safety Committee had a program on "poison identification." They had two samples of a identical looking substance and you had to pick which was the safe one. Also members read aloud different sections of a Poison Handout.

Gary Schweer gave a demonstration on "rabbit salsa dip." Anthony Strack gave a demonstration on "how to get your garden off to an early start." Belinda Strack had an illustrated talk on the "importance of spaying and neutering your pets" and a demonstration on the "proper care of your bow and arrow" was done by Zachary Schneider.

Members enjoyed a "4-H word scramble" led by Anthony and Belinda Strack and refreshments were enjoyed courtesy of the Foote and Probst Families.
