The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met May 19 at the home of Kathy Kiefner.
Susan Benton, president, led the meeting with seven members present.
The minutes from the last meeting were approved as read.
Yellow roses were presented to Kiefner, the chapter Valentine queen, and Cindy Propst, the chapter Woman of the Year.
Further discussion was held on the chapter's responsibilities for the state convention. Gifts were opened revealing secret sisters for the past year.
The next function will be a barbecue Tuesday at the home of Benton.
The Nancy Hunter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met May 20 at the home of Edna Ruth Fischer. The afternoon tea was the official visit of the Missouri state regent, Morgan Myer Lake, who was guest of honor. Judy Mahal of Piedmont, Missouri, Southeast District director, was also a guest.
Charlotte Slinkard, regent, reported that the chapter gave American History Awards to outstanding students at Cape Girardeau Middle School, Trinity Lutheran School, St. Mary Cathedral School, and St. Vincent de Paul School. Lilly Edwards, an outstanding student of American history at Central High School was also recognized. Mick Stiver and Carolyn Webb are committee chairmen.
Lake administered the oath of membership to new members, Penelope Bender, Donna Grantham, Dale Humphries and June Readnour.
A memorial service was held for departed members, Martha Beggs Adams and Dorothy Dolle Points.
The abbreviated business meeting included an update on plans to host the Southeast District meeting this fall. The next meeting will be in September following the summer recess.
The Torchbearer Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at Olive Garden for the annual "end of the year" dinner. All 17 members were present. Joyce Hays presided. Regular meeting formalities were dispensed with.
A tentative date of June 15 has been set for an executive board meeting.
The chapter summer dinner out dates and places are as follows at 6 p.m.: O'Charley's, June 18; Outback Steakhouse, July 16; and Red Lobster, Aug. 20.
Bobbie Woodard announced a lunch trip to the Boars Nest in Anna, Illinois, June 7. Those going will leave at 12:30 p.m. from Garbers in Town Plaza Shoping Center in Cape Girardeau. Other events are planned for the summer including a mystery trip and a trip to Sandy's Restaurant at the airport for Friday night fish.
It was reported that the convention committee has announced that Beta Sigma Phi nights will be held over the summer at the following restaurants: 4 p.m. to midnight June 10 at Beef O'Brady's; July 19 at Texas Roadhouse (must have flyer); and July 21 at Gordonville Grill (all day).
Members completed a survey for the past year to be used in planning the new year.
Carole Calvin was presented with the program of the year award for the tour of Old St. Vincent's Church presented by Ron Kirby and perfect attendance stars were presented to Vicki McKinney, Linda Belote, Marsha Parrish, Charlotte Bess, Carole Calvin, Margaret Little and Marilyn Schwab.
Following dinner and a brief meeting, secret pals for the past year were revealed and new secret pals drawn for the new year.
The next regular meeting will be Sept. 21 at the home of Bernie Gardner.
