Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club met Aug. 8 at Delmonico's in Jackson. Games and fellowship were enjoyed by all.

Luella Armstrong led in a game of the "Price is Right," where participants guessed the right price of all the items, and if it was right, that person could keep the item.

The next meeting will be Sept. 12, at Delmonico's.

American Legion Auxiliary

There were 23 in attendance for the Aug. 10 luncheon and meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary. Edna Smith, Jerri Stone and Irene Winston served as hostesses. President Barbara Yallaly read a poem "Freedom is not free."

During the business meeting Teresa Teague shared information about the Boys and Girls Club and the Family Resource Center Youth joining forces to serve the young people in Cape Girardeau. The group will sponsor a spaghetti supper, Sept. 1, at the American Legion Hall in Cape Girardeau.

Edna Smith shared thank-you notes from three of the girls attending Girls State, with their appreciation for the experience in better understanding the functions of our state government

Members brought food items for Red Star food pantry and school supplies for the youngsters at Jefferson Elementary School.

Shirley Young, representing the DAR, invited everyone to Brookside Memorial for the program at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center.

The next meeting will be Sept. 14 at the post home.

Entertainment for the afternoon was a purse scavenger hunt. There were 25 items listed that members could possibly carry in their purses.

Town & Country FCE

The Town and Country FCE Club met Aug. 11, at the home of Linda Thompson, hostess. Joyce King was a guest, later becoming a new member. Darlene McCain, president, presided and members repeated the pledges and the Club Collect.

Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected and it was voted to send a $25 donation to ACWW for this program. 2012 membership forms were completed and yearly dues paid. July trivia calendar monetary proceeds were collected.

McCain made the following announcements: FCE Leader Training planning meeting for vice-presidents or any member, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the quarterly FCE Council meeting is set for 7 p.m. Sept. 1, both at the Jackson Extension Center.

Plans were completed for assembling the club's booth display at SEMO District Fair, with setup time 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 9.

The club project for September is for members to bring items for the Safe House for Women to the meeting for delivery date to be set later. Recipes for the international lesson on Spain were given out to members for the Sept. 8 dinner meeting to be held a the home of Sue Jones.

Mary Klaproth, Jones, and McCain reported on attending the National FCE Diamond Jubilee Conference in Denver, Colo., July 14 through July 17. McCain was recognized as recipient of the national board alumni scholarship to attend the conference.

Officers were elected for 2012 as follows: Klaproth, president; Lois Seabaugh, vice president; Jones, secretary; Thompson, treasurer; and McCain, reporter.

The program was given by Lois Seabaugh on the hazards of new technology ending with a quiz on computer technology and Klaproth, assisted by all members, gave a program just released at National Conference from Hearth Fire Series #49 on "Someone's asking ... paper, plastic or neither?"

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hickory House in Jackson.

Refreshments were served by the hostess.

Oak Ridge FCE

With a theme on the country of Spain, Oak Ridge FCE met Aug. 16 with Nelda Crader as hostess with 14 members present. The menu for the occasion was food served in Spain which all members cooked and brought a wide variety of items.

President Jean Rehak opened the meeting with pledges to our flags and singing "This is our country."

Crader gave the secretary's report and Billie Criddle read the treasurer's report. Both were approved.

Pat Hecht had devotion with a poem "Open your eyes" by Emma Whisenond and story "When you're attempting something new."

A Red Cross donation was give to the local chapter for August monthly project.

Plans for the booth for the SEMO District Fair is being finalized by Rehak.

FCE Quarterly council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.

The program on the country of Spain was given by Carole Byrd. Crader gave a program on calcium and vitamin.

It was announced that Oak Ridge FCE will serve refreshments at an auction today with money raised to help with our Christmas items in conjunction with the Jackson Elks to give back to our community to less fortunate families. Items bought with money raised are, socks, underwear, hat and gloves, along with books for children.

Plans are underway for the MAFCE 75th Diamond Jubilee Annual Conference in Springfield, Mo., on Sept. 28 through 30. Those who plan to attend are Betty Dellinger and Barbara Barks from the Oak Ridge FCE.

The club will have bingo at the Missouri Veterans Home Monday and those attending will be Rehak, Peggy Barks, Dellinger and Barbara Barks.

American Legion Post 158

The Altenthal-Joerns Post 158 American Legion in Jackson met July 12.

New members in attendance were Warren Reams, Army; Ben Skelton, ROTC; Jim Skaggs, Navy; and Jesse Hargraves, Navy.

The minutes from the June meeting were approved.

Boyd Summers announced his withdrawal from the Americanism chair. Dick Decker announced a list of officer nosiness with Bill Poe giving the motion to approve nominees for vote by acclimation and it was seconded by Kenny Koehler. It was approved.

Thank-you cards were received from Brent Nagel for a savings bond he received and Drew Garvey for being selected for Boys State.
