Kage FCE Club

Linda Farrow was hostess when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for their regular monthly meeting. President Dortha Strack presided.

Dortha's tip of the day was "wrap onions and peppers in paper towels, put in a zip-lock bag and refrigerate."

Members were reminded of the Military Mail Project. The club deadline is Oct. 21,

Members brought items for the Safe House for Women, the club service project for July.

The registration form for the state meeting to be held Sept. 28 through 30 in Springfield, Mo., is in "The Messenger." Inez Statler will receive the state "Heart of FCE" award at this meeting. Several members plan to attend.

The next district meeting will be held in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on Oct. 4.

The following 4-H Members presented demonstrations: Tony Schweer, "how to make a honey bee out of a pavestone" and Jordan Smith, "box turtles"

Sarah Ross presented the program for the day, "Women to women -- do I have diabetes?"

Judie Herbst will be hostess for a 10 a.m. "brunch" meeting on Thursday.

Lamplighters FCE

Bert Seyer was hostess for the July meeting of the Lamplighters FCE. There were 12 members in attendance. The hostess gave a devotional reading entitled, "Just do your best." Karen McLane, president, presided over the meeting.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report was given and placed on file.

An update from the June 2 County FCE Council meeting was given by the president. She explained three major changes on the year end score sheet: a single picture of the club is needed, there will be no display book, and the score sheet and its numbers have been changed.

13 members attended the birthday party trip to Ava-Campbell Hill, Ill. Five members worked to produce 11 lap pads, nine blankets and 18 shoulder snakes at the June 20 "Love given by the pound" weighted autism items work day. The next autism item workday has been set for Oct. 12 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.

SEMO District Fair booth committee members, Linda Freeman, Jo Ann Hahs, Teresa Hinkebein, and Verla Mangles, are gathering ideas for Lamplighters' booth.

The committee for granddaughter's day, Roberta Allen, Karen Eakers, Linda Sebaugh, and Freeman, discussed some ideas with the club and will be announcing the exact date for this event.

Members were reminded of the following dates and events: A trip to see the St. Louis Cardinals play the New York Mets is scheduled for Sept. 22. The 75th Diamond Jubilee MAFCE meeting will be held Sept. 28 through 30, at the Clarion Hotel in Springfield, Mo. The Fall District FCE meeting will be at the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on Oct. 4.

Bev Meyer showed how she organizes and saves with coupons. Jackie Kurre shared information from the diabetes leader training meeting, and Freeman lead the group in the beginning stages of making potato jewelry.

The next meeting will be Aug. 18 at Sharon Bogenpohl's home. Each member is to bring 14 copies of a potato recipe to exchange. The month's programs will be on Houseplants and to finish the potato jewelry.
