Murray Dunn, vice district governor of Missouri Lions 26-M1 visited Lions World Services for the Blind in Little Rock, Ark., Aug. 27 and 28 with approximaely 200 Lions members from throughout the United States. Lions World Services for the Blind, formerly Arkansas Enterpriss for the Blind, is an organization supported by Lions throughout the entire nation. American Legion Auxiliary 63

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 met Aug. 11. Catherine Allison and Shirley Young were hostesses for the luncheon prior to our meeting.

The Rev. Terry Wildman of Shelter of Hope was presented with fourteen handmade quilts assembled by several of our members, and also given numerous cans of soup, all to provide warmth and food for the homeless.

Barbara Yallaly, president, called the meeting to order.

Linda Kern, membership chairman, reported dues for 2010-2011 are now due.

Dorothy Klein, VA & R chairman, thanked members for their participation in the monthly birthday parties at the Missouri Veterans Home the second Monday of each month.

Vergie Templeton will serve as sunshine chairman and Peggy Blaylock will serve as Americanism chairman.

Members brought food items for the Red Star food pantry and school supplies for Jefferson Elementary School.

Our project for September will be to fill small paper snacks -- small cans of canned meat, tuna, crackers, etc. -- to be used in emergency feeding. The filled sacks will be donated to the Shelter of Hope.

Lamplighters FCE News

The home of Jackie Kurre provided the site for the August Lamplighters FCE club's Nigerian meal and program. There were 14 members present. The hostess gave a devotional, "Dirt roads" by Paul Harvey. Linda Sebaugh also shared "Observations on growing older."

During the business session, the following items received attention: The Lamplighters' Banner committee is currently checking on the cost of a banner that will be used to promote FCE; members Verla Mangels, Jo Ann Hahs, and Sebaugh, plus Hahs' grandchildren, presented a set of 30 "Storybook Tails" to the Riverside Regional Library on Aug. 10; SEMO District Fair booth committee, Bert Seyer and Karen Eakers, revealed the theme of the booth; and membership dues were collected by the club treasurer, Gayla Volz.

The following club officers were elected: Karen McLane, president; Sebaugh, vice president; Roberta Seabaugh, secretary; Gayla Volz, treasurer; Hahs, public relations; Bev Meyer, game leader; and Sharon Bogenpohl, song leader.

Teresa Hinkebein and McLane participated in the County FCE Tour to "Showboat" at the Muny on Aug 10. Mangels reminded members that Sept 18 is the deadline for the Oct. 7 Mississippi River Cruise aboard the Tom Sawyer Riverboat.

McLane shared that Hahs is making Cape County Tri-fold for the MAFCE 2010 Annual Conference, Sept. 22 through 24 at the Holiday Inn Southwest and Viking Conference Center, St. Louis, Mo. and registration for the Fall District "FCE---Fruits of Harvest" meeting Oct. 5, at Patterson Community Center, Patterson, Mo., is due Sept. 28. Sebaugh presented a program on Nigeria.

Cape Girardeau County FCE Council

The Cape Girardeau County FCE Extension Council met on Sept. 2 at the University of Missouri Extension Office.

JoAnn Hahs, chairperson of the scholarship committee, presented Darla Mangels with the FCE $300 scholarship. Mangels is attending Southeast Missouri State University.

Mary Klaproth reminded members of the FCE trip to Stages to see "State Fair" on Sept. 18. There are still openings on the trip on the Tom Sawyer Riverboat going to Kimmswick, Mo., having lunch at the Blue Owl and then going to the Mastodon State Park on Oct. 7.

Lois Seabaugh, chairperson of the nominating committee, presented the following slate of officers which were approved and will be installed at the Dec. 2 Council meeting: Hahs, president elect, Lamplighters FCE Club; Klaproth, secretary, Town and Country FCE Club; and Jeannie Rehak, treasurer, Oak Ridge FCE Club.

Linda Thompson and Klaproth gave a report on the National FCE meeting they attended in Grand Rapids, Mich., in July. Thompson received the Missouri Heart of FCE Award.

A report was given on the vice president planning meeting held in Perryville, Mo. on Aug. 20. The Fall Leader Training will be held at Salem Lutheran School in Farrar, Mo., on Oct. 29. The following lessons will be presented: healthy house plants, low calorie meals, women and money, and huck toweling. The Spring Leader Training will be held at the University of Missouri Extension Office on March 22. The following lessons will be presented: diabetes, hazards of new technology, stay strong/stay healthy program and calcium and vitamin D.

Mary Gosche, FCE consultant, announced the Grand Family Conference will be held on Oct. 14, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Babysitting will be provided by FCE members. Gosche will again offer in 2011, Stay Strong/Stay Healthy Program beginning on Jan. 10 with sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Because of the exercise class on Mondays, the workdays for making the weighted blankets for the TouchPoint Autism Center will need to be rescheduled for January, February and March.

Discussion was held regarding the MAFCE Annual Conference to be held in St. Louis Sept. 23 and 24. Fourteen FCE members from Cape Girardeau County are planning to attend.

The Fall District FCE Meeting, with the theme "FCE -- Fruits of Harvest" will be held on Oct. 5 at Patterson, Mo., hosted by Wayne County. The Kage and Lamplighter FCE Clubs will furnish centerpieces for the meeting. Dolls for State Advocacy Day and items for the silent auction are to be brought to the meeting. Cape Girardeau County is in charge of the door prizes and the benediction.

The next quarterly council meeting will be held on Dec. 2 beginning at 10 a.m. at the University of Missouri Extension Office with the Oak Ridge FCE Club serving as hostess and presenting the devotion.

New McKendree UMW

New McKendree United Methodist Women met Sept. 7 in church fellowship hall. Mary Klaproth, president, led the women in reciting the UMW Purpose.

The minutes of the June meeting were read by Gale King, secretary, and they were approved. King read correspondence from Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence, thanking the unit for the donation of Beanie Babies to their facility.

Klaproth gave the treasurer's report. She announced that the proceeds from the Memorial Day Yard Sale will be given for World Service Apportionments.

Shirley Patterson, education and interpretation chairperson, gave a report on School of Missions.

June Engel gave a report on the bereavement dinner served for the family of J.B. Seabaugh. She thanked all who baked cakes for the dinner and those who helped prepare the dinner. They were: Vera Dee Hager, Laura Jo Smith, Pat Lynn, Gladys Nitsch, Martha Smith, Barbara Hartle and Lisa Frederich.

Engel also reported that she, Laura Jo Smith and Wilma Wilcoxson took a bereavement meal to the family of Pat Schreiner.

Doris Dace attended UMW for the first time. She is a new member of the Ester Circle.

The Ester Circle hosted the Jackson Manor Birthday Party on Sept. 7. The Mary Martha Circle will be hostess at 2 p.m. on Oct. 5.

Eglenna Davis moved that the each Circle furnish five dozen cookies or brownies for the Community Outreach Picnic to be held Oct. 10 at the South Campus.

Julie Combs moved that UMW serve lunch for the Jackson Firemen and Policemen on Blitz Day, Sept. 25. The motion was approved.

Amy Cook moved the unit serve a dinner following the Cantata on Dec. 11. The motion was approved.

Klaproth made the following announcements: The annual UMW meeting will be Sept. 25, in Jefferson City, Mo.; the Fall District meeting will be Oct. 16 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.; the United Methodist Men's final fish fry for the year will be on Oct. 16.

The Mission team meeting to plan the year's budget and programs will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.

The next meeting will be a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. on Oct. 12. The United Methodist Men will be invited as guests.
