Tilsit 4-H Club

The Tilsit 4H Club had a meeting on Sept. 2 at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Jackson. Ryan Aufdenberg called the meeting to order. Roll call was "What are you taking to the fair?" Songs were led by Elligh Seyer. There were project reports in shooting sports and swine. Dylan Muench went on a trip to dairy judging.

The following demonstrations were given: Brent Werner, "shooting a gun;" Jacob Koenig, "judging;" Elligh Seyer, "how to make orange fluff;" Natalie James, "how to make a chocolate milkshake;" Emma Sievers, "how to make Amish sugar cookies;" Samuel Koenig, "parts of an arrow;" Adam Koenig, "parts of a bow;" Jacob Koenig, "basic steps to program a robot;" and Macy Werner, "sugar flowers and fondant."

We will be making pie dough on Nov 6. They are eight balls for $5. To order call 651-3932 and leave message. The swimming party is on Oct. 2. For our 4-H week activities, we are going to attend Mass together at the Immaculate Conception Church, and wearing our club t-shirts. A fall hayride is also being planned.

Election of Officers for the new year was held: Matthew Brucker, president; Morgan Bangert, vice president; Hannah Aufdenberg, secretary; Renee Peters, treasurer; Cody Aufdenberg, parliamentarian; Sara Gholson, reporter; Steven Peters and Adam Koenig, game leaders; Emma Sievers and Katlyn George, song leaders; Jill Peters and Sarah Aufdenberg, community leaders.

Grace UMW

Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau met Sept. 7 with 17 members and a guest were present for the meeting led by Margaret Zieba, president.

Refreshments were served by the Sander Circle. Prior to the business meeting a program was given by Rev. Karen Nothdurft of Centenary United Methodist Church about her third trip to the Holy Land. She showed pictures to illustrate the diversity of the land and people. It was an excellent portrayal intertwining the many aspect of historical, geographical, political, and spiritual characteristics of the land.

Minutes of the May meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report was given.

Lorene Welch, reading program chairman, brought some of the books to display and encouraged everyone to read. The Response Magazine will have a new layout. It will be sectioned into the topics of Learn, Live, Give, Listen, Act and Pray. Helen Ueleke and Margaret Zieba attended the Mini School of Missions.

Members were encouraged to attend the fall district meeting in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on Oct. 16. A UMW Sunday was proposed and will be held at Grace UMC at a later date. A "no work fund raiser" was proposed with a committee being appointed to present ideas and suggestions at the October meeting. Following a previous discussion last spring it was decided to hold the banquet in April and call it the Spring Mother-Daughter Banquet to include all the women of Grace.

The city wide UMW banquet will be held on Oct. 5 at Grace UMC. The program will be presented by women who went on a summer mission with the Heart of Africa group. Plans were made for food and decorations.

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 met Sept. 8 at the Post home with 20 members in attendance. Jane Stepens, Madeline Hente and Jackie Lowes were hostesses for lunch prior to the meeting. Frieda Howard won the monthly drawing.

Barbara Yallaly, president, called the meeting to order and Catherine Allison opened with a prayer.

Members returned the small grocery sacks distributed at the August meeting filled with nourishing food snacks for emergency/transient feeding. Yallaly delivered the sacks to the Rev. Terry Wildman at the Shelter of Hope.

Monetary gifts were approved for a Girl Scout Troop, the United Way of Southeast Missouri and the American Legion Children's Home and Orphanage located in Oklahoma.

Linda Kern, education chairman, asked members to bring clothing items (socks, mittens or gloves, caps and underwear) to the next meeting on Oct. 13 meeting and will be given to Jefferson School.
