All area schools and municipal offices will be open on Monday, Columbus Day. The Monday solid-waste pickup routes will run as scheduled.

Area banks and financial institutions will be closed Monday, along with and all federal, state and county offices in observance of the holiday.

All area post offices will be closed Monday. Cape Girardeau Postmaster Mike Keefe said there will be no home or rural mail delivery and no window service or box distribution. However, the post office lobby will be open Monday for mail pickup and to purchase postal stamps and supplies from dispensers.

Keefe said Express Mail and special delivery mail will be delivered Monday. There will also be a holiday collection of mail in the city late Monday afternoon. Mail will be shipped from the mail distribution center in Cape Girardeau on Monday night, Keefe said.

The Cape Girardeau Federal Building will be closed as will all Cape Girardeau County offices in Cape Girardeau and Jackson. The Cape Girardeau County Commission will not meet on Monday.

There will be no driver's license or commercial driver's license examinations given Monday at the Jackson National Guard Armory. Testing will resume on Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Cape Girardeau license fee office will be closed Saturday and on Monday. License fee offices in Jackson and Chaffee will be closed Monday only.
