Deadline for church fundraiser is Oct. 30

The New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson is holding its annual homemade pizza sales fundraiser. The pizzas come ready to be baked or frozen. The deadline to place an order is Tuesday. Orders can be placed by calling the church office at 243-8487. Pick up pizzas from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 2 at the church Fellowship Hall on South High Street in uptown Jackson. All proceeds benefit church programs.

Nature center to hold GPS program Sunday

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will hold "Hunting and Fishing with GPS" from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Discover how Global Positioning System technology can help when fishing and hunting. Bring a GPS or one will be provided. Ages 12 and up. Registration required by calling 290-5218.

Cape County Historical Society holds outing

The Cape Girardeau County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at the River Heritage Museum. For more information, call Virgil Whitener at 243-2251. There is an admission cost.

Nature center to offer watercolor program

A program on learning watercolor techniques that will make painting fun and simple called "Swampscapes" will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. The program is designed for ages 12 to 17. Registration is required.

Booth space open for annual craft show

Applications are being accepted for booth space at the 12th annual three-day craft, gifts and collectibles show Nov. 16 through 18 at the Bavarian Halle. Limited spaces remain. Proceeds from this year's show benefit the Notre Dame Performing and Visual Arts Program, Operation Freedom Soldier Christmas packages, Toys for Tots and Christmas for the Elderly. Volunteer center launches Web site

Volunteers and not-for-profit organizations can now easily find the Volunteer Intergenerational Center (VIC) and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) on the Internet at www.vicrsvp.org. Together VIC and RSVP recruit and refer volunteers of all ages in order to help expand services in not-for-profit agencies who are struggling with today's social issues and problems. These agencies connect volunteers and resources so they may work as effectively and efficiently as possible to create positive change for communities in Cape Girardeau and Scott counties. The Web site was designed and built especially for volunteer centers by the Points of Light Foundation and Volunteer Center National Network, allowing volunteers to search and find opportunities 24 hours a day. Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging sponsors the Web site.

NARFE chapter to meet Nov. 13 in Perryville

The National Association of Retired and Current Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1237, will meet at noon Nov. 13 at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Perryville, Mo. Current and retired federal employees in Perry, Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau counties are encouraged to attend. There will be a program and a 50/50 drawing. For information, call 573-547-4249.
