Neighborhood group meets Thursday

The Neighborhood Connections group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St. to discuss various topics. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call public relations chairwoman Joan Jones at 651-4567.

Modern Woodmen youth club forming

A new Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club will hold its first meeting for children 7 to 11 years old at 2 p.m. Saturday at the leader's home, 900 N. Sprigg St. Sharla Gaddy of Cape Girardeau will lead the club; Jim Stafford, a Modern Woodmen representative of Cape Girardeau, will sponsor monthly activities. For more information, call 651-0030.

Book party marks children's book week

A family Build-a-Book Party will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The library wants to help preserve children's' stories, and this educational event is centered around parents and children building (not just writing) a one-of-a-kind book together. Book kits are available for a fee. Call 334-5279 to reserve a space. Proceeds will be used to purchase books for reading incentives and prizes during the children's summer and winter reading programs at the library. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

Christmas carnival set for Dec. 2 at VFW

A Christmas carnival presented by Angel Productions will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at the VFW, 1049 N. Kingshighway. The event includes prizes, games, crafts and Christmas shopping. The event is intended for children ages 1 to 12; adult supervision is required.

Christmas Craft Program to be held at library

An adults-only Christmas craft program will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 8 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 301 S. Broadview St. Participants can make a small woven basket to take home that day for use during the holiday season. Registration ends Dec. 5. There is a fee to cover the cost of materials.
