River Heritage Museum adds board member
The board of the Cape River Heritage Museum recently accepted Angie Bender as a new member.
A native of Cape Girardeau, Bender graduated from Central High School and then William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in history. She is completing her master's degree in historical preservation at Southeast Missouri State University.
Bender has moved back to Cape Girardeau from Oklahoma City, Okla., where she was employed as curatorial assistant in the textile division of the Oklahoma Museum of History, Oklahoma Historical Society.
Also new at the museum is Robyn Mainer, an historical preservation student at SEMO university.
Current exhibits at the museum include the Girl Scout Anniversary exhibit which continues until Sept. 21, and the Early Hats and Garments exhibit.

Local Missouri Retired Teachers met Sept. 4
The local chapter of Missouri Retired Teachers met Sept. 4 at Chateau Girardeau. The program included a history of River City Players, Cape Girardeau's community theatre.
The program was given by Chuck Ross, a long-time member of the theatre and past president. After the theatre history program, the retired teachers introduced themselves and gave a brief history of themselves and their teaching careers.
The organization meets the first Wednesday of each month except in January, February, July and August. For more information, contact Al Mason at 334-6734.
Fish and chicken supper to be held at Bell City
BELL CITY, Mo. - A fish and chicken supper will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Bell City Community Building. The menu will also include: hush puppies, slaw, potato salad, beans, dessert and a drink.
The cost for adults is $7, ages 6-12 eat for $3.50 and under 6 eat free. Proceeds go to pay for the community building.
Motorcycle ride to benefit nursing scholarship fund
CAIRO, Ill. - The Mayor's Three River Run Motorcycle Ride, sponsored by Mayor James Wilson and the City of Cairo, will be held Saturday at Fort Defiance Park in Cairo, Ill. Registration is from 10 to 11:15 a.m.
The cost of $10 per bike includes a meal, a bike show and door prizes. Proceeds will go to the JDSM scholarship fund, which sponsors nursing scholarships throughout the region.
A trophy and $150 will go to the motorcycle association, club or organization with the most participating bikes. Second place will receive $100, and third place will receive $50.
The Laborer's International Union Local #773 will also be giving away a 2002 Harley-Davidson Ultra at the event. Raffle tickets cost $10 each.

Millersville Masonic Lodge to hold dinner
Millersville Masonic Lodge Westview #103 will hold its annual chicken and dumpling and ham dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The meal is sponsored by the Past Matrons and Sisters Club. Everyone is invited.

Dunk a doctor and help diabetes research
The Cape Girardeau Physician Associates America's Walk for Diabetes Team will hold a Doctor Dunk from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the top floor of the Healing Arts Parking Garage at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Schrader-Floyd family reunion held Saturday
Relatives of Theodore and Martha Schrader Floyd gathered at Cape Girardeau County Park North for their annual family reunion on Saturday.
A noon basket dinner was enjoyed by all, and the attendees shared old photos and family histories.

Boy Scouts schedule sign-up programs
School nights to join scouting scheduled
The Boy Scouts of America will be holding programs at various locations in September in order to encourage elementary school-age boys to join the organization.
Boys in grades 1-5 can join any Cub Scout Pack in the area, while boys in grades 6-8 can join a Boy Scout Troop. Scouting activities include games, field trips, campouts, fishing, canoeing and much more.
Programs will be held at the following locations on the following dates:

7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 - Blanchard Elementary and
Franklin Elementary
7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 - Jefferson Elementary and Alma Schrader Elementary

In Jackson, Mo.:
7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 - Main Street Family Fitness Center
Interested boys may also join the scouts at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Broadway United Methodist Church in Scott City. A Cub Mobile Race is scheduled for that day following signup activities.
The cost to join the Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts at this time is $4.20. All scouts will receive a free t-shirt at their first meeting.
