PATTON -- A bee sting is blamed for a motor vehicle accident that injured eight people in Bollinger County Friday.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said eight people were injured at 12:15 p.m. Friday, after the driver of a car was stung on the leg by a yellow jacket or bee. The driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned on Highway 72, two miles west of Patton.

The driver, Granville Butler, 63, of Collinsville, Ill., was taken to the Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff with moderate injuries.

Also injured in the accident were passengers:

-- Mary A. Carver, 27, Marquand, serious injuries.

-- Tammy J. Butler, 34, Collinsville, moderate injuries.

-- Holly J. Butler, 9, Collinsville, moderate injuries.

-- Jamie L. Schroder, age 4, Marquand, moderate injuries.

-- Jesica L. Carver, age 3, Marquand, minor injuries.

-- Helen L. Schroder, 31, Marquand, moderate injuries.

-- Virgil W. Butler, 13, Collinsville, moderate injuries.

The injured passengers were taken to the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
