Kage FCE Club

Barbara Schaffner was hostess April 12 when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for the regular monthly meeting. The devotional, "Strong Woman Versus a Woman of Strength," was presented by Schaffner. President Dortha Strack presided.

Dortha's tip of the day: To clean your microwave, microwave a wet paper towel for four minutes, then wipe out.

Shirley Palen and Judie Herbst reported that the "Show Me Justice" games are ready for distribution. One hundred games are being presented to the local fourth-grade classes.

Reservations were taken for the district meeting to be held Tuesday in Farrar, Mo. Those attending were reminded to bring an item for the silent auction. Eight club members will be attending.

A report was presented by Inez Statler on All Clubs Day held April 2. Jane Clark received her 50-year membership pin at the meeting.

Jo Daume and Sarah Ross assisted at the "Angel Project" Easter egg hunt March 31.

The next autism workshop will be June 5.

Members should bring books for newborns to the May meeting. These will be taken to Saint Francis Medical Center for the annual "Day of the Family."

Schaffner distributed information for the 2012 FCE tours. These tours are open to the public. Call 243-5426 for additional information or ask an FCE member. The schedule is as follows: a trip to The Muny in St. Louis Muny on June 26 to see "Chicago;" a trip to Kirkwood Stages on Aug. 8 to see "The Sound of Music;" and a trip to Kentucky Opry on Sept. 8 so see "The Carl Hurley Show."

The program, "Paper or Plastic and Environmental Friendly Products," was presented by Opal Collins.

Inez Statler will be hostess for the 11:45 a.m. May 10 meeting at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.

American Legion Auxiliary 63

Fourteen members met April 11 for a brief meeting. Members voted to purchase raffle tickets to support the nursing scholarship program for District 14.

Thank-you notes were read from Cape Griardeau Nazarene Church in appreciation for the donation of tablecloths in memory of Max Stovall and St. Mary Cathedral in memory of long time member Maxine Heuschober. A donation was received from Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance.

Following the meeting 13 members car pooled to the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship Arena. Linda Farrow, a volunteer with the program, explained the functions and services provided.

Following the presentation, the group met at the Ponderosa in Perryville, Mo., for lunch.

The next meeting will be May 9 with lunch at noon and the business meeting beginning at 1 p.m.

Town & Country FCE

The Town and Country FCE Club met April 12 in the home of Linda Thompson. Members repeated the pledges and the Club Collect. The devotion, "Daily Prayers Resolve Your Cares" by Helen Steiner Rice, was given by Thompson. Roll call was answered by "What have you bought made in the USA?" Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected. A game called Biblical Garden was led by Darlene McCain. Thank-you notes were read from the Scope Club and Parkview State School.

Mary Klaproth, president, presided over the business meeting. Town and Country FCE Club was recognized at All Clubs Day on April 2 with a membership certificate of 45 years, and Thompson, charter member of the club, was recognized with a 45-year membership certificate and pin.

It was announced 17 blankets and nine lap pads were completed at the autism work day April 9.

Members made plans to attend the spring district meeting Tuesday in Farrar, Mo. Members should bring a silent auction item.

The National FCE Confrence will be held July 19 through 22 in Erlanger, Ky., with Sue Jones and Klaproth planning to attend.

Members brought school supplies for Hope Children's Home in Jackson with McCain in charge of making plans to deliver the items.

Members put labels in 44 books brought to the meeting. The books will be donated to SoutheastHEALTH with Lois Seabaugh in charge of the delivery of the books. This is being done in conjunction of the National Day of the Family on May 15.

A luminary was decorated in memory and honor of loved ones for Relay for Life, which will be held on April 28 at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau.

Members voted to give a donation of $25 to Clover Kid 4-H Camp to be held in June and will give an end of school party for the students of Parkview State School in May.

The program was presented by McCain on "Made in the USA." In addition, all members participated in the discussion of Hearth Fire No. 28, "Someone's in the USA asking ... Can I be a Lobbyist?"

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Branding Iron restaurant in Jackson.

The next meeting will be May 10 with Seabaugh the hostess and the program on "Women and Heart Disease" presented by Thompson.

Grace UMW

Grace United Methodist Women met April 3 with eight members present for a short business meeting conducted by Barbara Miller, president.

Mary Ann Pensel opened the meeting with a devotion and a reminder of our mission groups on this month's prayer calendar. They are the Gilead Center for displaced children in the Philippines, the first responders at Lanbi Center in Haiti and the Emmanuel training in Honduras. All of these missions are sponsored by UMW.

Circle chairs Carol Boguslawski and Margaret Zieba reported on their group's suggestions for using the proceeds from the basement sale. Both groups suggested bathroom renovations. After a discussion, it was decided to wait for more information regarding the new remodeling plans before a final decision is made. It was reported that five round tables were purchased from the proceeds.

Margaret Dement and Miller went to the spring district meeting in Sikeston, Mo. The district candle burning netted $7,601.60 and burned for four hours.

Grace UMW received a five-star unit certificate and will receive a faith certificate for meeting 10 or more criteria for Mission Today.

A Red Cross blood drive will be held June 6 at Grace United Methodist Church, and volunteers will be needed for the four hour event.

The remainder of the morning was spent setting up for the spring banquet held that evening. A program was given by Cheryl Mothes on her mission work in Haiti.
