JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Stephen Mahfood, the director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, has been appointed to a commission on environmental agreements to the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Mahfood was appointed to the U.S. Governmental Advisory Committee to the North American Free Trade Agreement by Christine Whitman, administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The commission provides recommendations on behalf of state, local and tribal governments with regard to development of policy positions for the United States related to NAFTA.

Mahfood has served as the state DNR director since 1998.
