Dorena-Hickman Ferry closing for at least a week
HICKMAN, Ky. -- A western Kentucky ferry that connects Kentucky and Missouri closed Tuesday for about a week. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the Dorena-Hickman Ferry is going to a Memphis shipyard to be outfitted for a new barge. It's expected to take a week but may be longer. The ferry connects Kentucky Highway 1354 at Hickman with Missouri Route A and Highway 77 near Dorena, Missouri. It is the only direct route between the two states.
Kentucky and Missouri are the only border states that aren't directly connected by a road or bridge.
