An East Prairie, Mo., man drowned in the Current River and a Poplar Bluff man was killed in a traffic accident over the weekend.

The Missouri State Water Patrol reported that Jerry Wayne Taylor, 35, of East Prairie had been swimming Saturday afternoon in the Current River about 50 yards from a bridge near Doniphan, Mo., when he was swept into the current and was unable to swim out of it.

His body was recovered and taken to Shelby Funeral Home at East Prairie.

Mark Browning, 30, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was killed in a one-vehicle accident Sunday three miles north of Poplar Bluff on U.S. 67.

State police reported that Browning's vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned. He was thrown through the windshield.
