The organization's national vice-president of community service, Shanks is one of 10 student members of the National Executive Council elected in July. She also visited Washington, D.C., and met with Missouri congressional leaders.

The national officers participated in communications workshops, received program updates and completed plans for the organization's national leadership meeting July 9-13 in Washington.

Shanks is the daughter of Brent and Jeanne Shanks.
