Two men who led Cape Girardeau police on a high-speed chase Saturday were apprehended Monday night at a Bollinger County residence by deputies.
Terry L. Mayabb, 45, of East Prairie, Mo., and his nephew, Cory A. Mayabb, 22, of Charleston, Mo., now sit in the Bollinger County Jail on drug-related charges, said dispatcher Kevin Otte.
Warrants were issued Monday afternoon for the men in Cape Girardeau County after they allegedly purchased an excessive amount of cold pills from the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart on Saturday and fled from a traffic stop. Police later found their abandoned car filled with numerous items commonly used in the making of methamphetamine. The suspects left the car in a wooded valley and fled on foot.
Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle filed charges against the men for possession of ephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
In addition, Terry Mayabb became the first person to be charged in Cape Girardeau County with a new class D felony for resisting arrest by fleeing and creating a substantial risk of physical injury or death to others. His bond has been set at $100,000 in Cape Girardeau County and $10,000 in Bollinger County.
Cory Mayabb's bond was set at $15,000 in Cape Girardeau County and $10,000 in Bollinger County.
Both men are scheduled for arraignment in Bollinger County Associate Circuit Court Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. on suspicion of possession of ephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
Swingle said Wednesday he did not know when the suspects would be brought to Jackson, Mo., for arraignment because it was still too soon for arrangements to be worked out between the two associate circuit courts.
