A Southeast Missouri State University football player charged with first-degree burglary in connection with the beating of another student waived a hearing on the evidence against him Tuesday. Jared Goodson of Cape Girardeau, listed as a linebacker for the Redhawks' 2009 team, appeared briefly before Associate Circuit Judge Scott Thomsen and waived his preliminary hearing. Thomsen ordered Goodson to return to court April 5 for an arraignment before Circuit Judge William Syler. Goodson is accused of entering a house on Dunklin Street where Blake Carlton was sleeping Dec. 13 and damaging property in the home. Carlton was beaten, and Antonio Garritano of Jackson is charged with assault. Brett Jones if St. Clair, Mo., also faces assault and burglary charges. Two other defendants, Derek Gohn of Bridgeton, Mo., and Pili Showers of Cape Girardeau also face burglary charges in the case.
