A former West Park Mall employee was charged Friday in connection with bomb threats made Thursday at the mall and the Jackson Walmart.
Thomas F. Moody, 28, 3005 Wisteria Drive, was charged with two counts of making a terrorist threat, a felony. Cape Girardeau County Circuit Judge Benjamin Lewis set bond at $10,000.
The Jackson Walmart was evacuated Thursday afternoon, but no bomb was found. Police also responded to West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau and found no bomb.
According to a probable-cause statement from the Cape Girardeau Police Department, Moody called the mall's administrative office about 2:25 p.m. Friday and said there was a bomb in the building.
Employees said they recognized the number because Moody was a former employee who called regularly about getting his job back, according to the signed statement.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department responded around 2:35 p.m. and conducted a search inside and outside the mall. During the search, Cape Girardeau police arrested Moody in connection with the
incident.
Moody also allegedly made two calls to the Jackson Police Department. According to a probable-cause statement from Jackson police, he called about 2:40 p.m. and said there was a bomb at the Jackson mall and Cape Girardeau. He later called the police and said his friend placed a bomb at the Jackson Walmart, according to the signed statement.
