Fort D Days

Cape Girardeau's Fort D historic site was the stage as Civil War re-enactors provided a glimpse of life at the Union post 145 years ago.

Civil War re-enactors stood at attention as an Army National Guard color guard presented the colors at Fort D on Saturday, May 6, 2006.

Civil War displays were set up in the stone building on the Fort D site.

New reader boards tell the story of Fort D.

Boys played Civil War on the earthwork fortifications at Fort D.

Central Middle School students played Civil War-era dulcimer music.

Central High School fiddle team members played Civil War-era string music.

Morley Swingle presented remarks on the Civil War at the ceremony which also included, from left, Loretta Schneider, Mike Shain and Chuck Martin.

An 1863 flag replica was raised over the Fort D building.

An artillery salute capped the ceremony at Fort D.
