Church homecoming to be held Sunday

The annual Homecoming at the Niswonger Church in Millersville, Mo., will be held beginning with a basket dinner at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Following lunch and a short business meeting, Esther Gray will present some information about the Niswonger history that she is working on. Anyone with old photos, stories or obituaries that belong in this history are asked to bring or send them to her. In case of rain, the meeting will be held at the Millersville Baptist Church. Morton-McNeely family reunion Sunday

A Morton-McNeely family reunion will be held starting at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Jackson City Park at shelter 1 in Jackson, Mo. A basket dinner will begin at noon. All descendants of George Pink and Ollie Corrine McNeely Morton and their extended families are invited to attend. Please bring photos and family history information.

Scott County historical society to meet

The Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the courthouse in Benton, Mo. Doug Sikes of Turner Publishing Co. will be the guest speaker, answering questions regarding the Scott County history book to be published. Everyone is invited to attend. IAAP chapter scheduled to meet Monday

The Girardot Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) will meet for dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau. The program will be on non-verbal communication in the workplace by Dr. Michael Weatherson from the speech and communication department at SEMO University.

Motorcycle ride to be held in Cairo today

The Mayors Three Rivers Motorcycle Ride, sponsored by Mayor James Wilson and the city of Cairo, Ill., will be held today at Fort Defiance Park in Cairo.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. Cost is $10 per bike, which includes meal, refreshments, eligibility for door prize and bike show. The ride will be 65 miles long with a police escort. All bikes are invited. The event is to benefit the Jennifer Dowdy Sullivan Nursing Scholarship Fund.

Story time hours at Jackson Public Library

The Jackson Public Library will be holding story times for ages 2 years through pre-kindergarten. Children will have books read to them, play games and make craft projects. Story times are Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Register at the Jackson Public Library in Jackson, Mo.

Fall fun scheduled at Scott City Park

Scott City Park will host a washer throwing contest and a square dance demo Sept. 22 at the park in Scott City, Mo. Registration for the washer contest begins at 5 p.m. with a $5 entry fee. The contest is open to all throwers 18 years of age.

The dance demo will be hosted by the Thunderbirds from Sikeston, Mo., going onstage at 7 p.m. Concession will be provided. For more information, call the park office at (573) 264-3411.
