The Institute for Children and Families at Southeast Missouri State University will sponsor a teleconference titled "The Future of American Children."

The event will be held Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.

Census data say one in five American children live in poverty.

The teleconference will include a panel discussion by Dr. Michael Parker, associate professor of social work; Dr. Sharo Shafaie, associate professor of human environmental studies and elementary and special education; and Dr. Helen Miner, assistant professor of nursing. Dr. Cathy Mogharreban, director of the institute, will serve as moderator.

The Institute for Children and Families was established in 1992.
