GIRL SCOUTS HOST SPORTS RECREATION DAY

Girls in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades are invited to a day of sports recreation at Cherokee Park Saturday.

Sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Junior Girl Scouts, the 8:30 a.m.-noon event will feature Southeast Missouri State University gymnastics stars Aimee Bernier and Heather Markle. Any girl who attends and later joins the Girl Scouts will have earned her first badge, the Sports Sampler Badge.

Girls will learn first aid for sports injuries and will make a piece of sports equipment. They also will participate in two activities, choosing from tinikling (the national dance of the Philippines), softball, volleyball, horseshoes and Frisbee, soccer relays, double Dutch rope jumping and crazy relays.

Girls are asked to bring sun protection, signed permission from a parent or guardian, and 50 cents to cover the cost of the event.
